Purpose of the course
The course aims to enhance the understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) for technical persons and legal appointees required to establish, implement, and maintain an OHSMS compliant with ISO 45001.
The course has a specific emphasis on the implementation of ISO 45001 for the mining, manufacturing, and construction industries. There is also a specific focus on the role of legal appointees such as the:
- 2.13.1 (engineer in charge at the mines) as it relates to the Mine Health and Safety Regulations
- GMR 2.1 (competent person appointee) as it relates to the General Machinery Regulations
- CR 8.1 (Construction Manager) as it relates to the Construction Regulations
- ER 12.1 (Explosives Manager) as it relates to the Explosives Regulations
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, you will:
- Understand the context of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Course Approach
During the course, you will:
- Review the written and video content, presenting theoretical information and examples.
- Be required to progress through lessons in the correct order.
- Be required to watch at least 90% of the video content to progress to the next lesson.
- Be required to score at least 70% on the quiz assessments and have a maximum of five attempts.
- Have access to sections according to the content that needs to be covered in the respective weeks of the course (i.e., not all content will be made accessible at once; you will need to go through the course following the scheduled content).
- Receive the Certificate of Completion once you have completed 100% of the course.
